Dear Alpha Beta Foundation, 

 

My name is Brianne Gonzalez, and in the Fall of 2023, I will attend Kean University to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education P-3 with a teacher of students with disabilities endorsement. I am so grateful to be the 2023 Alpha Beta Foundation’s recipient of the Alpha Beta Scholarship with a $1,000 award. I have always profoundly respected my teachers throughout my education, especially seeing how much effort and dedication they put into helping me and my classmates. I am lucky to have had many personal experiences through community service that made me realize my passion and desire to become a teacher. 

 

In middle school, I started volunteering at various summer camps and assisting teachers with arts & crafts, reading, and writing. From this volunteer work, I saw how much I enjoyed spending time with children and that having a career working with young students was something I wished to pursue. In my senior year of high school, I participated in an internship through my high school’s The Academy of Education and Leadership, where I received first-hand experiences in the classroom. I interned in a kindergarten class at a local elementary school, where I applied my academics to classroom exercises. Like the summer camps, I assisted students with their writing and reading skills, along with learning math concepts and letter recognition. Most importantly, I witnessed how much each student grew academically over the year and their constant enthusiasm for learning. It exhilarated me to anticipate how much they would learn as they continued their academic journey. I enjoyed contributing to their growth, which made me realize how much I wanted to be a teacher and share my skills and talents with children. As an elementary school teacher, I will instruct students on the fundamentals of their education, which means so much to me. Even though teaching can be challenging, I know it is the right career for me.  

 

This scholarship’s award money will go towards purchasing textbooks for my college courses. This money will significantly help me as I start my higher education and will allow me some relief in funding my college education. Throughout my career, I hope to make an impact on my students and inspire them to love learning as much as I do. Thank you again for choosing me as this year’s recipient and helping me to attain my goal of becoming a teacher.
