I would like to thank the Alpha Beta Foundation for presenting me with the 2019 scholarship award in the amount of $1,000. I’m so honored and extremely grateful for this award.  Thanks to my principal, guidance counselor, and English teacher for the support to pursue this scholarship. This scholarship meant a lot to me, not only in monetary value but in the aspect that this is making my dream become more of a reality.

When I was younger, I would set up my basement and playschool for hours. I was the teacher and my twin sister, Jianna who has special needs was the student. She has been my inspiration and the one who influenced my decision for as long as I can remember. I adore special needs children and couldn’t think of a better way to express my gratitude than to teach. No other profession had meant so much to me the way teaching did. At the special event held for the recipients, I told my story as to why I wanted to become a teacher. I also listened to some teachers tell their stories and values; I remembered that teaching comes from the heart and that it takes that one special person to inspire a young mind forever.

The funds for this award went towards my new MacBook air that will be used on campus and at home. Also, it went towards my textbooks for the first semester that cost between $50-150. Lastly, it helped with the bare necessities that I will need for my first semester as a college student. For example, my parking pass and meal plan. Thanks to the Alpha Beta Foundation, I was able to start my college career on the right path with the right necessities.

Thank you, Alpha Beta Foundation. As a teacher, I will be able to provide the essential building blocks needed to strengthen my students' journey. There is no better reward than to see a child’s smile when you have inspired them. Obtaining the proper education to enable me to pursue my dream has been my goal for my whole life.

                                                                                                                                           Jamie Romano
